Studying Diagnostic Radiography/Radiation Therapy outside of Ireland
Studying Diagnostic Radiography/Radiation Therapy outside of Ireland
It is possible to study Diagnostic Radiography and Radiation Therapy outside of Ireland. However, if you do choose to study abroad, you will need to have your qualification recognised in Ireland before you can register here to work as a radiographer or radiation therapist. This process is managed by CORU, the state regulator for Health and Social Care Professionals in the Republic of Ireland. They ensure that the educational standards of all professionals working under the same title is comparable in the interests of patient safety.
Many ROI students obtain their qualifications from Universities in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland through the UCAS system before applying to CORU for recognition and registration and returning to Ireland to work. Other students travel further for their studies, but all must register through CORU if they wish to return (please check with CORU directly if considering studying overseas www.CORU.ie).
Due to variations in the legislation and regulations of different countries, curricula and clinical time can vary considerably across qualification programmes. Should you have any specific questions about studying Diagnostic Radiography/Radiation Therapy overseas please email the University directly as they can also vary in terms of entry pathways/requirements. Qualifications may also vary in length but are usually 3-4 years in duration.
